Hoan Kiem Lake is a famous land mark. It has a huge historical context and is one of the oldest places in the city. One can also easily spot some soft-shell turtles which swim in the lake and has been seen since years, they make a beautiful sight. In English translation lake means “Lake of the Returning Sword”. The major tourist attraction upon the lake is the small island connected by red bridge that holds Ngoc Son Temple, dedicated to three grand figures from Vietnamese history: La To, Van Xuong and the 13th-century general Tran Hung Dao, who fought against the invading Mongol army. southern section of the lake holds the stocky Turtle Tower – best viewed from the bridge.

The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long :

The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is UNESCO World Heritage Site. it is among the best places to visit in Hanoi for its architecture as well as a powerful symbol of the history of Hanoi. In the 1800s, the French colonials decided to tear down most of the Citadel to make way for their structures, the Citadel they left behind now houses the Ministry of Defense, but the government has left a few historic parts open to the public.

One Pillar Pagoda :

One pillar pagoda holds unique architectural structure, it stands on one pillar in the center of an elegantly square shaped lotus pond. The temple was built by Emperor Ly Thai Tong, who ruled from 1028 to 1054. According to legends, the heirless emperor dreamed that he met Quan The Am Bo Tat, the Goddess of Mercy, who handed him a male child. Ly Thai Tong then married and had a son and heir by her. Out of gratitude he built the temple.

The Perfume pagoda is outside 60km of Hanoi city. Pagoda is the site of a religious festival visited by Large number of Vietnamese. Legends believes that the first temple was built before 2,000 years ago by a Buddhist monk who was meditating nearby. The mountain foothills are an area of great natural and spiritual beauty filled with streams, tropical plants and temples.

Water Puppet Theatre in Hanoi :

The tradition of water puppet theatre stems from a time when rice paddy fields were flooded, and villagers would make entertainment by standing in the waist-deep water with the puppets performing over the water. Performances are accompanied by a Vietnamese orchestra playing traditional music using drums, wooden bells, horns, bamboo flutes and cymbals. Traditional content of water puppet performance like daily life of Vietnamese farmers or historical legends (Le Loi returns precious sword), with modest performance way have appealed audiences for centuries.
